unable to use simple VPN connectivity

I am trying to use GBridge as a simple VPN service (I know it does a lot more, but for now, a simple, free VPN connection that will encrypt my communications and give me a US IP address when outside of the country is all I need).

However, I can't seem to get just a VPN connection initiated between my computer and the gbridge network. I have installed the software, and it starts automatically and appears to connect (I can log off or restart the connection from the main window).

However, the test ping does not work (timeout) and there are no links that appear.

There does not seem to be an easy way to create initiate a VPN connection (as opposed to sharing files) from the menus.

What am I doing wrong?
