problem with friends names showing as encoded strings

Hello,
I have an issue where some of my friends are showing inside gbridge as usual "john.smith" but about half of them are listed as "3eggdsrew23435435dsgfd@public.talk.google.com"

same in the chat box, it displays there name encoded. at the same time, I can google talk with them under their normal names....

please let me know if you have any ideas..
