file transfer and wait screen stall on desktop share

Hi,

I just tried to do a desktop share between my desk and aptop computers. two things happened,

I tried to transfer a file of 37 mb, and it stalled at 84 percent and did not move. I am not currently on the same network as my desktop, but both are university networks (one wireless and one wired) so I don't think port forwarding is an option, or at least not without faking an ip and all that fun stuff which is, well, more than I want to risk. .

Anyway, I have udp enabled in the advanced options, good netowkr connectivity on desk and fair on laptop.

When I tried to go back to the desktop share after my computer froze up, I got the "please wait start screen loading," or something like that, you know the one that just hangs out when you start the desktop share. well, it stayed there for oh a good 20 minutes before I finally closed it down. So obviously I didn't get to try transferring a file again.

Is there anything I can do that might help either of these issues and are they common to the program?
