Been running gBridge in a production environment of 11 computers for about a week now. Here sre some initial observations.
1. (This may be an UltraVNC issue rather than gBridge) In the filecopy tool in the remote desktop function, would be nice to be able to click a folder then click send/receive, rather than having to manually create the folder on the target computer then, on the source computer, enter the folder and send files.
2. (Again, may be an UltraVNC issue) Can't remote desktop into a machine that has the keyboard/screen locked, either by ctrl-alt-del or by screensaver. No error is returned telling you why it failed to connect. Runnning gBridge as a service may fix this. I will experimant with running as a service using FireDaemon.
3. Multiple identities. Rather than the current log out/log in, how about a drop-down menu for selecting between login identities?
4. (Possible UVNC issue) When opening the filecopy tool, how about an area on both sides that has the gbridge secure shares? For example, if I want to quickly copy something from computer A to a secure share on computer B, I have to use the filecopy system to navigate to the proper folder on B. If I had a list of secure shares, I could click on the one I want and hit send and be done! This would greatly simplify use of gBridge as a workgroup tool, so users could easily "publish" a file(s) to a secure share for other users to access.
5. If all those possible Ultra VNC issues above are indeed Ultra VNC issues, then I strongly recommend writing your own file transfer system, using either ftp or bit torrent as the underlying protocol (a similar product, Remobo, uses bit torrent. I dont like Remobo, and it did not work for me). I'd recommend ftp... an inheirently unsecure protocol, but since we're providing a tunnel, it would be acceptable.
6. Add my vote to running as a service, 64 bit support, and a linux version.
7. Ability to have UVNC use a different port than the default 5905. This should be configurable.
8. When in the UVNC remote desktop, what is up with the disabled icons at top of screen? Send Ctrl-Alt-Del, Toggle Full Screen, and Chat are all disabled. Is this due to the version of UVNC being used, or have you disabled them for some reason? If you did, please re-enable Ctrl-Alt-Del and the screen toggle. gBridge Chat is mostly adequate, so UVNC chat is not required.
9. Speaking of gBridge Chat - more features such as text color/size/font, images, and file transfer would be very very handy. I relaize this may be limited by the gtalk implementation. If so, please look into a more normalized jabber setup. Perhaps two versions of gBridge.. a 'standard' freeware one using gtalk, and a 'pro' modetly priced shareware one that would (hopefully) provide you enough income to afford the bandwidth for a jabber server.
10. As a future enhancement, how about VOIP through the gbridge tunnel. Open it like you would the chat function, but you get to talk instead.
11. When one accesses a secure share, it is in a web browser. How about the ability to create/edit the appearance of the secure share webpage... these files could be placed in a local folder.. Nothing major, but it would be nice to have a header image and some colors configurable for each secure share (default being the current no-graphics page).
