Hi,

I’m having a problem here with the last few updates as I always get a “New Network” warning from Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (v8.0.0.506) every time I reboot or start up. That is a pain if I have to reboot remotely and is also a pain for any user.
It’s a bigger pain as my list of “Disconnected” entries within the Kasp network device list is likely to run off the screen no matter if I make them “Local”, “Trusted” or whatever.

A system running Gbridge v2.0.0.1259 doesn’t have this problem and it has never been a problem on any other machine until the last few weeks after updating Gbridge.

Could someone investigate this as I am sure I am not the only one having this issue as KIS2009 is a very popular and trusted product, if not the best around at the moment?

As an interim measure can you please direct me to a link where I can I download and install an older version where this is not and issue? Version 2.0.0.1259 will do me as that appears to work adequately with all the bells and whistles I require. I will then ignore any updates until the matter is resolved and pass that information on to other users as just a temporary measure.

You can get the 1259 version from download.com
http://download.cnet.com/Gbridge/3000-7240_4-10877073.html

select 1259 in the 'previous versions' drop list.

Don't quite understand this. Can you give more detail?

There are almost no changes after 1259 that may related the virtual nic.

What is your windows version?

Here's what I get every time I open Gbridge be it a reboot or I just close the app and restart it.

26

Something is different each time as you can see below.

27

Win versions here are a mix of Vista Home Premium/Ultimate and XP Pro/Home/Media Centre and the problem is the same on them all apart from the one running v2.0.0.1259 (XP Media Centre).
I've now just updated that XP Media Centre to v2.0.0.1284 and no Kasp pop-ups. [Correction that KIS install wasn't running in interactive mode - once changed there was a problem]

28

That just shows up as gbridge.net

I'll check KIS2009 settings between the various machines but I know at least one of them with the same problem is running on Kasp Default settings as I just re-installed it.

Thanks for the the reply

Well now all my PCs are the same and display the very same problem.

I found that XP Media Centre machine was running KIS2009 v8.0.0.357 and not the latest v8.0.0.506. That has now been updated and as I said that now also doesn't like Gbridge.

Where do we go from here as KIS2009 is a very established and respected global product and I want to use Gbridge with it without repeated reminders or pop-ups from Kasp? One pop-up allowed and I'll mark it as "Trusted" and I will be very happy as before.

Surely I can't be the only one running Gbridge with KIS2009 ????

Thanks guys as I don't know how you are going to sort this one out but do let me know. I'll get on to LisaC at Kasp UK to see if she can point me in the right direction for a solution but she won't receive any info until Monday.

Moja, thank you for investigate this issue. Because it seems to be a regression problem from Kasp 357 to 506, I think the best bet to solve this problem quickly for you is to contact Kasp and push them to release a fix.

I have done that and I am waiting another reply as LisaC is out of office until the 22nd so I have also channelled the problem down a route to additional contacts for Kasp support and they may be able to help with this matter as who else can?

It looks to me that Kasp doesn’t no longer like your IP addy so have you offended them in any way?

All I can do now is wait over the weekend and the Kasp forum never sleeps but I don’t like those clowns as I prefer to chat to Kasp direct as they know their product better and not 3rd hand so to speak. I have been there before and LisaC has a more direct line to Kasp HQ in Moscow than me. She is a wonderful lady as it happens.

We will have to wait and see says me...

Update

I can confirm it is not a Kaspersky problem but a Gbridge problem and relates to the changes you have recently made to you Virtual NIC.

The problem is definitely not there in Gbridge v…..1177 and I will explain how any KIS user can replicate what I see here and it won’t break anything.

In KIS go Settings > and in Interactive protection deselect “Select action automatically” > Apply. Close Gbridge down and then restart it and you will see what I see.
To go back to as you were go KIS Settings > and in Interactive protection select “Select action automatically” > Apply.
There you go I now have proof it is a Gbridge thing and not a Kasp issue that you can try at home safely.

Kaspersky I have been using since it was AVP and I know how to drive it to suit me and the default settings are not for me, never have been. As much as I trust KIS2009 I like to know what is going on and if any changes happen then I want to know ASAP as I am like that re PC security. Maybe I am a Kaspersky Power User?
The default settings from Kasp don’t work out of the box if you have a need to remote in to it and change a few things in Kasp and if you go Settings > Options > you will have to take out “Enable Self Defense” (yes a typo but is a Kasp thing to correct).
Same goes for LogMeIn, TeamViewer, AnyPlaceControl, VNC flavours as Kasp protects itself by default.
I help many peeps for FREE and I can if they wish take control of their PC from here so certain prerequisites are that Kasp has to be downgraded sort of thing. Don’t worry as part of my FREE side is they have any data protected using Acronis that I can run from here or they can do themselves if they have the confidence. That gets placed on external USB storage or I won’t help them again if they loose valuable data.

Gbridge is a very useful to me as I use it daily for chat and just to see the online status of my other PCs. I will be very honest and say that LogMeIn (FREE in my case) is still the most live and smoothest remote app out there and is the model to beat or match. Once I can do that all my stuff re data transfers goes via CuteFTP Pro or FileZilla to and from a dedicated Qnap NAS here. It is secure and I have control over it.
AnyPlaceControl (not FREE) is the sleekest for LAN PC stuff and wasn’t too bad over WAN from even a 3G connection but all traffic went through their server and that is a NO NO for me as I like P2P once a link is made. They have since priced my requirements as a non contender to me as I won’t pay their prices. I was happy with a pay as you go sort of thing re a paid for up front data package but they pulled the plug on that service. I don’t trust them as they didn’t answer all of my questions before they showed me a finger of sorts. That isn’t my problem now.

I am in correspondence with Kaspersky UK as there are a few things I need to know more about. What I think has to happen next is Gbridge and Kaspersky need to talk to each other and I have already planted that seed.

Thank, Moja.

One thing Gbridge has changed since 1177 is, by default the gbridge NIC card is offline until gbridge agent start. I guess that might trigger the KIS2009 issue. Do you see similar issue on hamachi? Is your hamachi NIC is in offline state when hamachi is not on?

Problem resolved for now…

You can get the 1259 version from download.com
http://download.cnet.com/Gbridge/300...-10877073.html

I’m sorry but that link given to me above doesn’t allow older versions to be downloaded so I’ve battled on with the latest version of Gbridge as that’s the route I wish to take anyway, and is what will follow.

It was indeed a Kaspersky problem and they are now aware of it and if they fix it I won’t know and I don’t particularly care now as Kasp UK Tech Support are just telling me what I have told them already as I get emails off a different Rep each time I get a reply. That’s not very professional says me as they just don’t live with the product or know its deeper functions that well. KASP HQ do, so I’ll be contacting them directly in the future.

Anyway - for those that wish to know.
The problem only arises if you want to run KIS “Interactive Protection” in a non Auto mode. I do that as I don’t like Kasp’s tame settings out of the box as they just degrade the product but is now more user friendly for anyone new to Kaspersky. Well that’s not me I can assure you.

KIS2009 (v8.0.0.454)
This is what you will find on most current KIS2009 CDs and there are no issues with Gbridge no matter what mode you wish to run it in. Great news but it’s an old version now.

KIS2009 (v8.0.0.506)
That is the latest v8 update and it does have a problem if you want it to operate interactively so you can see what’s going on, with more control. That’s how I found this problem and is my preferred way of doing things as I like to know if things change for whatever reason.

No way was I going back to v8.0.0.454 so I had a look at what builds were about for KIS2010 and I was very pleased with what I found and I am now using it on all PCs near and far away.

KIS2010 (v9.0.0.459)
Kasp UK call it a “Tech Release” but the rest of the Kasp world call it a “Development Build” so go juggle with that. It’s not a Beta version but I would say it isn’t far off from being what might be next from Kasp.
That version doesn’t have any problems with Gbridge and the way I wish to drive Kaspersky and I am still trying to break it. It is however far from being a build that is ready for Joe Public as it still blocks certain essential things even if installed as default. There are toys and there are toys I suppose and Kasp’s biggest problem must be taming a powerful product so any clown can use it out of the box like AVG lol
Now I know where my familiar setting live I’m sticking with this version for a while.

Thanks Gbridge Devs and I hope this clears up a few things at long last
