View Full Version : My 2 computers don't see each other ...

After reading the FAQs, I still can't get my 2 computers to see each other.

PC1 (tswsrv1) : in the office (NAT Router, firewall for incoming traffic)
- added a secureshare allowed for "My other PCs" without any password
- access to computer is not blocked (context menu of computer in "Friends" tab)
- Opened UDP, SSH, Windows Shared folders, other traffic in the GBridge firewall for incoming traffic (advanced options)
- UPNP is enabled in the advanced options (but probably not supported by office router)
- ipconfig shows an IP-address for the gBridge ethernet adapter (10.239.0.1), I'm able to ping 10.239.0.1 and 10.239.0.2.
- Showing "GBridge : Excellent network connectivity"

PC2 (hdlaptop) : at home (NAT Router, firewall for incoming traffic)
- added a secureshare allowed for "My other PCs" without any password
- access to computer is not blocked (context menu of computer in "Friends" tab)
- Opened UDP, SSH, Windows Shared folders, other traffic in the GBridge firewall for incoming traffic (advanced options)
- UPNP is enabled in the advanced options (but probably not supported by office router)
- ipconfig shows an IP-Address for the gBridge Ethernet adapter (10.239.0.1), I'm able to ping 10.239.0.1 and 10.239.0.2.
- Showing "GBridge : Good network connectivity"

I restarted GBridge on both computers, but still they just show the local computer, not the remote computer and the shares. Am I missing something here ? I tried to send myself an invitation via friends context menu and got an email, but nothing else. I tried to browse the url to my secureshare on the other side, but the url could not be found (http://tswsrv1.homeserver55.gbridge.net/tmp/ did not work at home)

How is the connection supposed to work ? I was under the impression that gbridge.net relays traffic somehow in order to form a VPN between computers. If that is the case, I don't understand why both computers have the same IP address for the GBridge Ethernet adapter.

Do I have to open ports on my firewall or should the VPN take care of the traffic ?

Is there any way to find out if the two computers are members of the same VPN ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

[Update] : I tested the same configuration using the (US) test account and the two computers see each other immediately. That means, it's a problem related to Europe / Germany again...

Just found another location in the code that always assumes gmail.com and ignores the googlemail.com. Will fix the problem asap. Thanks you so much for pointing out this issue and provide us so detailed debug information!!!

The new version (1.0.0.1124) works nicely for me, so far I tested :

- Autobackup
- Autosync
- UltraVNC aka Desktop share
- RDP aka "Windows remote desktop"
- accessing windows shared folders

All testing was done on "My Computers" -> I did not invite friends yet.
(Heck yes, I DO have friends !)

I installed the gbridge a few days ago. My two computers, a laptop and a desktop where connected with the same user name, and everything was perfect. However, since yesterday I cannot see them connected. My laptop is connected, and it doesn't see my desktop, and my desktop is connected but it doesn't see my laptop.
Is it any problem, any fix, or something that happened just a few days. It is very weird because it was working before, but now it is not.

Another think, i tried is create another gmail account, and with the other gmail account is working fine. I don't have the problem mentioned above.

I would like to know what is going on? why my first account was working at the beginning, and then it is not working. And why it is working with a new gmail account that i create.

Thanks,

Ericker

I am running into the same problem. My gBridge link was fine (I have been using gbride for just under a week syncing folders both ways) until I attempted to sync my desktop and laptop earlier this evening. Now my computers do not recognize each other. Also I created a new gmail account specifically for gbridge but the computers do not recognize each other via that method as well. Both computers have different host names and both log on with "excellent network connectivity" but they fail to see each other. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide and the product is really great when it is up and running.

Hi,

I have been using Gbridge for about a week now between an IBM Thinkpad (Acting as a server, sharing all the portable devices) and my HP laptop. This morning when I booted my HP up, I could not get either of the computers to see each other. I am running these 2 computers on the same network. However, someone who is accessing my shares off network has no problem seeing either computer.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I did try to play with the windows share folder the night before, but I don't think that would have caused this problem.

Any Suggestions? Thanks

Same issue here, funny how it was working one second then while im remoted in last night I lost my connection to the other PC.. now with both side by side they still cannot see one another. BUT When I add a friend to one it showes up on the other console, but still no other PC's im logged into show up.

Been waiting for help../ update

Looks like a few mistakes where made with this update.

1. testing VNC localy does not work anymore.
2. A huge number of spelling mistakes
3. Unable to see any other PC's you are running Gbridge on.

Same issue here that other users have reported. I've been running GB for about 2 months with no problems at all on four computers. Today none of my computers can see any of the other ones.

Do you have an ETA for a fix?

Three of my computers are running 1.0.0.1177. I only upgraded one of my computers this morning to 1.0.0.1184 after noticing the problem and thinking that maybe an upgrade would fix it, then I saw these thread.

Nothing on any of my systems has changed version-wise over the last few days (until the upgrade today). That includes OS upgrades, etc. I did install some new software one of my computers yesterday, but I have had the same software on two of my other computers for years. It is a stock trading app, not network/system related.

I do have secureshares and autosnych's setup on three computers - I mention this because I believe somebody else mentioned having issues with this. Please let me know if you would like any further information.

I have one gmail id that I have had for several years and have been using it for Gbridge for several months, it still works fine. I have a new gmail id that I created last week to link up some friends. It was working with Gbridge until this morning. Now anyone using that id, including me from the same computer that works with my old id, can log into gbridge, but when we try to use or test Desktop Share nothing happens, and we cannot see each other. I created a brand new Gmail id today and I get the same problem with the new id. Only my old one works. Where do I go from here? Is there a way to turn on a log to help trouble shoot. In all of the ids I can log onto Gmail and from there log into chat.
Thanks

Let me know if you need any other info dan.bressers@gmail.com

Also the DesktopShare setf-test does not work anymore in 1183 or 1184.

This happened last night around 7:30, I was logged in and working when it suddenly could not see any of my other PC's.

I have two PC's here at work both on the same subnet.

Anybody else notice yesterday afternoon that Gmail has a new look? Could just be a coincidence, but I wonder if they made some changes that caused this?!

For testing I shut GB down on all but two of my computers that are sitting right next to each other on the same lan (WinXP). I removed all shares and autosynchs, no luck. Then I ran the no UPNP version on both computers, no luck. Then I did the reset config function and restarted both computers, no luck either.

Since both of these computers are running 1.0.0.1177, I don't see how this can be a software issue. I'm certainly no expert, but a change outside the GB software seems the likely culprit.

Sorry about the spam...Here is something interesting, albeit maybe unrelated...I have another gmail email I setup as a test a while back. I tried to logon with that but I had forgotten the password. After going to gmail to reset it I still can't logon to GBridge. I changed it about 10 minutes ago and can logon to gmail with it just fine.

GB gives the error:
Authentication (72.14.235.125) error, please check your username and password.

Hope that helps.

Problem isn't fixed for me!

I've tryed both, the normal and the beta version on two PCs behind a Router in a LAN.

Tryed it with 3 different google accounts:
1. 3rd party mail adress xyz@gmx.at -> see NO PC even localhost
2. Austrian (Europe) xyz@gmail.com -> only localhost is shown; no remote pcs and no shares or something
3. American xyz@gmail.com -> same as 2

How can I make it run?
Is the problem solved? On some posts it says so but i can't verify that.

Confirmed with Google that they were upgrading some servers yesterday. The upgrade may have issue. They isolate the upgraded servers by taking them out from the dns, so idealy restart the Gbridge should work. But some DNS servers may cache the entry while disobey the TTL (which is 5 seconds), so you may have to wait the old record be purged.

Am a brand new user.
The issue I have is probably my fault?

In UK - using googlemail not gmail (is that important?)

3 pc's on lan = 2 desktops and one laptop.
All 3 have different hostnames.

e.g.

laptop.namename.gbridge.net
desktop1.namename.gbridge.net
destop2.namename.gbridge.net

where namename matches my googlemail account name.

gbridge 1.0.0.1196 is loaded and running on all - but NONE of the devices can see each other - only themselves.

Have setup secure share on one desktop and invited a friend - no problem - friend was able to access.

Anyone got any ideas why my 3 machines - all using the same gmail name - can't view each other ? Better still anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Cheers
Kit

I guess it might be gtalk server issue.

Kit
05-05-2009, 06:31 AM
Do GTalk server issues happen often? (I am a newbie!)

Update: Having taken my laptop to a remote network today I was still unable to see the 2 other machines registered under my gmail address.

However - I have been able to log in and access secure shares on the other two devices by logging in as a friend - rather than as myself.

I tried a file transfer... or two - miserable failures! The transfers all seemed to kick off OK (I found the throttle control in Options / Network Bandwidth and maxxed it to 99999) but after a short time - approx 1 minute - the data transfer simply halted. A reconnection was required. I was able to repeat this several times.

I'm still pretty uncertain as to whether the issues are with GBridge / GTalk infrastructure our are more local to me!

This looks like a very useful system indeed - with all the features I would wish for to transfer files between colleagues & friends. Shame I can't make it work! (Yet!)

admin
05-05-2009, 09:26 AM
very sorry for the inconvenience. Please try the latest beta http://www.gbridge.com/check_version/gbridge-latest-beta.exe , which is more resilient.

When you transfer file, do you use the Gbridge autosync, or just download it in the browser?

Kit
05-05-2009, 12:38 PM
Thanks for the advice.
I tried the beta and when installed on mt Toshiba Tecra M9 laptop the gbridge console would not display when invoked.

However... not to be defeated I then removed gbridge from all 3 machines.
Used a USA proxy and set up a new gmail account. (rather than googlemail)

re-installed gbridge on all 3 machines using the new gmail account!
BINGO - I can now see all 3 computers under "my computers"
Brilliant.

Looks like there may be an issue with googlemail? Or maybe UK based gbridge servers? I don't know. But it's all working as advertised now that I'm using an @gmail.com address.

The next test won't be until tomorrow when I try to access from a remote location and some file transfers.

So download technique? Autosync or browser download? Whats the advantages? I've only attempted browser downloads so far.

Your help has been much appreciated so far folks - many thanks!

Cheers
Kit

If possible, can you register a new uk googlemail account and test it? If it still doesn't work, can you pm me the new account username/password? I just tested an googlemail account, seems cannot reproduce your problem.
