I didn't have any problem setting up a folder to autosync from my local Computer 1 to my local Computer 2, but from the wording of the FAQ, it sounds like this is a one-way sync. Is that correct? I don't see any option to sync both ways.
If that's right, how do I autosync in both directions? Do I have to set up a separate autosync for the other direction? Or ??????

That is correct. The change in your AutoSync source directory will be reflected to the destination directory, not the other way around.
Currently Gbridge doesn't support bi-direction syncs because of the publish-subscribe model.
In you just want to merge you two media libraries, as a work around, you can set two autosync pairs:
1. lib a -> lib b
2. lib b -> lib a
If one of the directory involves files that change often (like office files), this work aournd is not recommended for now. We will improve this in later release.

This is a HUGE disappointment. I installed Gbridge assuming that syncing worked in both directions--I must have missed something in the description of features.

Sorry for the confusion.
It is pretty tricky to handle bi-directional sync of two active directories. The toughest case is that the same file are changed in both directories and the change are different. The sync software cannot simply chose one copy and throw away the other, it need to understand the file format and does smart merge, which is almost impossible in many cases.
If you can make sure that no file will be changed on both directories AT THE SAME TIME, you can use the 2-autosync trick to link 2 directories. The catch is, We recently have a bug that may cause issue in this case, so please hold this trick until we release the fix. The fix will be released in a day or two.
Sorry again for the inconvenience.
[update] The bug mentioned above has been fixed in latest release. So feel free to set up 2 AutoSyncs that link your two directories bi-directional.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I see the problem. I remember that what first attracted me to Gbridge was that it would sync open files--a HUGE plus in my case. I didn't think about what a chore it would be to do this in both directions.
I am also realizing that this is fairly early in the development of Gbridge. I'll keep an eye on progress, but from your explanation I can't imagine it is possible to sync both ways. Anyway, I'll wait until you send notice of bug fix before trying the trick you describe. It might work for me because I am the only one using the program locally and would never be working on the two versions at the same time.
Again, thanks for taking the time to explain the problem.

ok, the bug has been fixed in release 1.0.0.1121. After update (by clicking help -> "check for upgrade") You can setup two autosyncs between your two directories now.

OK, thanks for letting me know.

Have there been any updates to the bidirectional sync functionality? I would like to be able to sync documents between three computers, and the documents may be edited by any one of the three. I am afraid of losing changes if I sync the directories in the wrong order, you know? Does GBridge check to see which version was modified most recently, at least?

Yes. Gbridge use the file's last modified time to guess which version is newer, and won't touch the detination if the destination's file is newer. Please note that you need to keep your computers clock sync to some degree (like within 1 min, at least within the min gap between the time you edit on different machines).
BTW, in case you didn't notice. The autosync task can be started remotely and manually, by click the computer icon in the friends tab and select "list autosync tasks".

another question on bidirectional syncing. I am using the a-b, b-a work around - but do both computers have to be online at the same time to sync. That is if I change the file on computer a while b is not online, then log on later with b while a is NOT online, will b pick up the change made on a even though a is not online?

This is a necessity, the only way around he problems raised by simultaneous editting realistically is to create replication conflicts, which will require some user interaction.
I believe that FolderShare (From MS) used this mechanism.

I tried a one way autosync lib a -> lib b
and files didn't delete here either

Problem with FolderShare is it doesn't sync system files such as "Desktop.ini"

I would MUCH rather have the software telling me what conflicts it finds, and letting me make the decision as to which file to keep, than having the software make a best guess on my behalf.
Like others here, I want to keep the data partitions on 2 PCs (my home laptop and my take-with-me netbook) in sync, and the inability to do 2-way sync - even with user interaction - would rule GBridge out for me. :-(

I autosync from computer a to computer b. The autosync works great, but when I remove items form a they are not removed from b, so b continues to grow and is NOT a mirror of a?
help please

Right, currently the delete operation won't be propagated to the destination. In the future, we will add more options to allow strict mirror.

For now there is no work around. Sorry. We will add this option soon.
