View Full Version : Unable to select remote computer for "Easy Backup"

Scenario:

I have an office computer and a home computer. I want to use GBridge to remotely backup files from my office computer to my home computer.

Problem:

Using the "Easy Backup" feature, when I go to create the backup pair the option to "store remotely on one of my other machines" is greyed out. I have GBridge installed at both ends and the SecureShare setup at my office computer.

Both my home and office computers have the same computer name. Could this be an issue? I noticed the FAQ says that you can't backup to a friend's computer which is not the issue here.

Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated. I have access to make any firewall or router changes if necessary.

PS - Both computers are WindowsXP Pro.

You are absolutely right. A unique name must be assigned to each computer that belongs to you, because Gbridge use this name plus your username to identify each computer. e.g.

if you login name is eugenioc, and you name your office machine as "office", then Gbridge will use the domain name office.eugenioc.gbridge.net to identify this computer. If there are two office.eugenioc.gbridge.net, Gbridge will be confused.

To change the name of your computer, click the toolbar icon "Log Off", then select menu item "switch user or change login setting", and change the computer name in the login window.

I just wanted to briefly follow up and say that renaming one of the computers resolved the issue. Thank you for your prompt response.
