I get the following error when I try to run desktop share:
"writeexact: socket error while writing"
I have configured everything per the instructions that I am aware of, any ideas on what is causing this?

Is it repeatable? Likely it is an ultravnc issue ...

I experience a similar problem the exact text in the modal window is:
Ultr@VNC Info
WriteExact: Socket error while writing.
It is repeatable.

Does this issue happen all the time, or just occuationally? What is your gbridge version?

I get the same error when connecting to the remote computer. The connection worked fine last week but now it occurs with every connection attempt. The connection sequence seems to be going fine and says that the password was accepted and then the dialog box pops up with the WriteExact error.
I have version 1.0.0.1183

please try upgrade to 1.0.0.1184. Start from this release, vnc server is running as a service.

I am using Windows XP with Gbridge 2.0.0.1293. I starting getting the "WriteExact: Socket error while writing" about one week ago. I am able to use Gbridge Remote Desktop, but the Desktop Share (VNC) is not working. Is there a way to trouble-shoot this problem?
Thanks
Dan

I was able to get Desktop Share (VNC) to work after turning off the local machine's firewall. But the Desktop Share with "WriteExact: Socket error while writing" was a problem even with firewall exceptions to Gbridge.exe, Gwinvnc.exe and Gvncviewer.exe. Does anyone have a solution?

Hello, I found that the Norton Internet Security intrusion prevention/protection module is responsible. Added VNC to the firewall rule, but I still go the error. If I disable intrusion protection it worked ok. I un-checked the VNC OB exploit in the list to exclude it from scanning and it seems to work fine now!
Sorry for the light details, I hate norton, and finished working on the machine that had it on it, and really to not want to mess with it again.
Good luck.

if you set your VNCViewer client to Full (all available colors) it will work albeit veeeery slowly. the same applies to UltraVNC where Quick options have to be set to Lan (Max colors)
I am looking for a VNC client that can handle lower screen depth for speed sake.
cheers

Hello I also get the "writeexact: socket error while writing" - problem.
It seems to only happen to me when another account on the computer is logged on.
EX: you have three accounts on your computer, one for you, one for your mom and one for your dad. If your mom is logged on and you decide to use the computer and log on with your name, Gbridge seems to start but does not connect properly to the other computer when being accessed remotely.
The solution I find that works is to either log off all of the user accounts on the computer then log into the account you want to access or have the computer restarted completely.
Now this process is a bit of a problem if there is no one else at the remote location to restart or log off the user accounts on the computer that was in use.
This might not be the case for everyone else, but this is what basically happens to me.
Hope this makes sense.
Thank you and take care,
KAINE
