View Full Version : Authentication Error
I've just installed Gbridge on my laptop so that I can connect to our family's house whilst away at college and I'm having a problem logging on. I keep getting an error message - authentication error 209.85.201.125. Does anyone no what I'm doing wrong please?

Is it possible that you type in the wrong google username/password? Maybe you can retry it. Or you can verify by login to your google account using gtalk to make sure you can log in using the same username/password correctly.

I use screenhunter which is pretty easy to capture screen shots (or regions).

Another idea: How about create a new free google account and test that out?

Same problem. I created a new GMail account to use with Gbridge. I can log on to this account but using the same username and password in Gbridge returns an authentication error. I am able to login to Gbridge using a different Gmail account. Just not the one created for the purpose.

1. I'm from Germany and registered an GMail account (today actually). There's a catch in germany, because Google is not allowed to use the name "GMail" - I believe it was a registered trademark in germany already.
So it's called Google mail over here, but the url is http://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=de&tab=wm in the main search engine page (http://www.google.de)
2. got an User ID xxxxxxxx@googlemail.com
3. I'm able to log in using http://mail.google.com which redirects me to
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=mail&passive=true&rm=false&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2F%3F ui%3Dhtml%26zy%3Dl&bsv=1k96igf4806cy<mpl=googlemail
meaning : I know my credentials
4. In the GBride Authentication Dialog, I enter
GMail User ID : xxxxxxxx@googlemail.com
Password : "mycorrectpassword"
Hostname : "mycomputername"
after a couple of seconds, I get a dialog with an exclamation mark : Authentication (209.85.201.125) error, please check your username and password.
If I use only xxxxxxx (without @googlemail.com), the same thing happens. In fact, Gbridge seems to strip the @googlemail.com from my input before connecting
5. Browsing to http://209.85.201.125, I'm redirected to http://www.google.com/talk/.
In order to check whether I can log in to google talk, I'm using the "Launch Google Talk Gadget" (http://www.google.com/talk/#)Link, which starts the small applet window.
Here I click the "Sign In" Link which opens a new browser window with https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=talk&passive=true&skipvpage=true&continue=https%3A%2F%2Ftalkgadget.google.com%2Ftal kgadget%2Fauth%3Fverify%3Dtrue%26http%3Dtrue
Next, I enter my email address xxxxxxxx@googlemail.com and my well known password - which successfully logs me in for the google talk gadget.
To sum it up :
- I'm able to log in for gmail/google mail
- I'm able to log in for google talk
- GBrigde can not log me in on two different computers
I'm going to wait a day or two hoping that my user credentials need do be spread among the google servers. I'll keep you posted.
I'm happy to do more tests or supply more information (or the credentials for my fresh Gmail ID, for testing purposes using a german "google mail" account - if you are willing to post an some (temporary/spam proof) support email adress here).
Have a nice day.

The VPN installs but GBridge won't log in to any of my GMail accounts - just an authentication error. And yes I did type them correctly - five times.

Been using TeamViewer without a single problem from day one. GBridge won't log on at all. Sticking with TeamViewer.

Spongebob, sorry for the inconvenience! and Thanks for your help!

It was just created (from a computer in United States), and tested OK from a computer in United States.
Interestingly among the 4 incidents that complained about login problems, 3 are from UK and 1 from Germany . Maybe google is using different gtalk server in Europe, and need some time to propagate the account information? The authentication server Gbridge is using is talkx.l.google.com , and it is through port 5222 or port 80 (so will have issues if you are using sock server). If it is possible, can you use ethereal to find out which server gtalk client is using in your location?
Thanks a lot for your help!

That login worked fine. My network setup is standard : DSL with Router, no outgoing firewall, windows firewall disabled, so port 5222 and 80 (out) should be fine.
I'll install etherreal / wireshark and dig into it and will keep you posted.
I checked my credentials again - 6 hours after registering my email account I still can't login using gbridge. To me it looks like there is some location/country dependency involved. (Just in case someone from germany /UK is reading this : does it work for anyone in Germany/UK ?)
I'll be back....

Thanks a lot for you kind help! Gbridge LLC is located in US and doesn't have any QA people works from Europe. Once we identify the cause, we will fix this problem ASAP.

Communication looks ok - I'm pretty sure it's not a network problem...
The Wireshark trace was sent to the googlemail account I specified in a private message to admin.
Good night from the other side of the globe...

We have nailed down the cause and fix. Basically if you specify some non-US location when you create the google account, the login process need to be a little different. http://joeanderson.co.uk/blog/2006/05/02/google-mail-uk-vs-gmail-us/
We will release the fix in a day or two. Before that, as a workaround, you can create a new google account and specify location as "United States".

Thanks for the rapid fix !
Login works now. But I have a connection problem between my 2 computers (they don't see each other) for which I'll start a different thread.
Yes the new version is definitely working in the UK now. Thank you :)
