View Full Version : SecureShare on remote server

I got the impression that I can sync files on a remote server to my local computer but I can't find a way or any instructions on how to create a SecureShare on a remote server that is not a pc. Do I need to add that remote file to my Windows network or ????? If I do, the more specific your instructions, the better, as I am a dimwit about networking.
Here's what I mean: When I click on Add in SecureShare tab, I get a directory of my local computer, which includes My Network Places and whereever I have designated Share files under Windows. This window does not allow me to enter a URL. So I'm thinking I have to add the remote site to My Network Places but I don't know how to do that, there are three choices. I am guessing the right one is Web Client Network but I don't have a clue how to add a remote URL to that.

Thanks for using Gbridge.
Currently, Gbridge only support sharing and syncing between Windows PCs.
The sharing and syncing is basically a publish-subscribe model.
1. publish: User-A creates a SecureShare to export a folder in the source PC, and selects which user can access this SecureShare. After you click the "add SecureShare" icon, in the first popup dialog, you can select a file or folder as a source of a SecureShare, so you or your friend can access the content of this folder from other PCs that has Gbridge installed.
2. subscribe: On the target PCs, User-B can browse all the SecureShare (which are created by the source PCs)he/she can access, and decide which SecureShare to sync and create the corresponding AutoSync task in the target PC.
Sorry for the confusion.

I don't remember how I got the idea that I could sync with a remote server (vs. pc). Maybe I simply misread something. Disappointing; I was quite excited about it! However, Gbridge is still a neat program.
Thanks for your reply.

I created a samba share on my linux machine (export it and allow it to be accessed from windows machines), and then set up a secure share on the windows machine (which has gbridge installed): You can enter the directory name as (eg): \\192.168.0.2\smb\foo\bar\ and use it as the source directory for creating a secureshare. Then I can sync it to my other windows machine. It works fine but need to have 2 machines (linux+windows) as the source..

What a great idea! Meantime though I discovered that Dreamweaver, which I use for Web page design and maintenance, ackshully has a sync function for web site to local machine, so I'm all set. It's fun to learn about these other methods though so thanks for offering this.

(I know that this is an old thread, but...) you could set the network share as a mapped network drive. Maybe then you could use it just like a local disk. Just a thought for others that may look at this. (Not tested)
