Is there any way this is possible?
I'd like to set my desktop computer to go to standby to save power (comes back up password protected), but do not seem able to do this.

For a window's based machine. Goto control panel, user accounts 2, and make your changes there. This is also were to store password go have the machine boot to desktop without a password, but you'll still be secure by just remote in and your machine/server is locked to anyone who walks up to the unit physically and give you best of both worlds. enjoy!
